Halloween, also known as AllHallowtide, All Hallows' Eve or All Saints' Eve, is a festival celebrated all over the world on October 31.
Halloween had its origins in the festival of Samhain among the Celts of ancient Britain and Ireland. During the Samhain festival the souls of those who had died were believed to return to visit their homes, people would also set bonfires on hilltops to frighten away evil spirits.
Halloween is a colourful three-day festival called El Día de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead). People bake cakes and treats which celebrate the lives of their relatives who are no longer here, and light candles to help guide loved ones home.
Chairs are placed by the fireside with each chair stands for a different family member, including those who are no longer here. It is believed that the spirits of past loved ones appreciate a comfortable chair after their long journey.
Before going to bed on Halloween night, some people leave a glass of water and piece bread next to a lamp that's left on - these are meant to welcome friendly spirits.
